Debt Options

We offer three main solutions – Debt Management PlanIndividual Voluntary Arrangement and Bankruptcy. Find out more about how each process works and which one could be right for you.

When it comes to solving problem debt, there is not a one size fits all solution. There are various options out there, and it is important to gain a thorough understanding of each one before committing to a particular route. This is where the experts at Northern Ireland Debt Solutions are perfectly placed to help.

There are three main debt solutions available to residents of Northern Ireland in financial difficulty:

  • Debt Management Plan (DMP)

    – All your debts are brought together under one manageable monthly payment. The payments continue until the debt is cleared in full.

  • Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA)

    – You will make one single monthly payment for a set time, typically 5 years. After this time, any remaining debt is written off.

  • Bankruptcy

    – This is the most serious debt solution. All your debt is written off, however, a record of the bankruptcy will remain on your credit file for six years making it extremely difficult to obtain future credit and could even impact on your job.

With over 25 years’ experience, we know the ins and outs of the personal debt market, and have seen a whole host of different problems from a range of people. What may be the right option for one person could be the completely wrong choice for others. Client Testimonials

    Amanda
    Belfast

After losing my job, I started relying on credit cards and payday loans to get me through the month. As the debt build up, I found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the monthly payments and was hit with late penalties and added interest which only made the problem worse.

I was ignoring letters and phone calls, and dreading knocks on the door fearing it was bailiffs. This was when I knew I had to seek expert advice. After contacting Northern Ireland Debt Solutions, I felt an immediate sense of relief. Within a matter of days, the phone calls and threatening letters stopped, and I was finally able to move on with my life.

    Portrush

After burying my head in the sand for many years, I knew I had to face up to my debt problems. I was ashamed of the situation I had got myself in to, and it took a lot of courage to pick up the phone and make that first call to Northern Ireland Debt Solutions.

My adviser was sympathetic to my problems and I never felt as though I was being judged. He explained all of the options which were available to me and explained how each would work in my situation. While bankruptcy is a big step, I knew it was the best thing for my circumstances. I paid off what I could afford and the rest was written off. Three years on, I am in a much better place financially and able to look forward to the future.
